BJP president Nitin Nabin will lead a march in Rohtak on November 1, the same day the INDIA bloc is scheduled to hold its “Chalo Dilli” rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. Both events come amid a dispute over voter rolls.
The Rohtak march is part of the BJP’s “Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao” (“Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy”) campaign. The party says it aims to counter what it describes as Opposition misinformation and claims about electoral processes, and to take its position directly to the public through this march.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and other state leaders are expected to join Nabin. The march is scheduled to start at Chhotu Ram Polytechnic Ground and finish at D-Park in Model Town, where Nabin will pay tribute at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue.
The INDIA bloc’s rally is part of its campaign against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and its demand for action against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Rahul Gandhi has invited supporters to march from Minto Road near Connaught Place, via Ajmeri Gate, to Ramlila Maidan at noon.
Separate BJP marches are also planned in Faridabad on November 1 and Karnal, where Amit Shah is expected on November 5.
The simultaneous events put contrasting messages on the same electoral issue. Opposition leaders say voter-roll changes threaten voting rights; the BJP says its campaign will rebut misleading claims. November 1 is also Haryana Day, and party workers and residents are expected to join Nabin’s Rohtak march.
