Maruti Suzuki has emerged as India’s largest electric passenger vehicle exporter, shipping more than 50,000 electric vehicles since August 2025, according to the supplied report. The development highlights how the automaker is building its international electric vehicle business even as domestic attention often centres on manufacturers such as Tata Motors and Mahindra.
The company’s e Vitara, its first global electric SUV, is at the centre of this export push. Manufactured in India, the model is being shipped to nearly 50 countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Japan and Switzerland. Europe is reported to be its largest export destination, giving Maruti Suzuki a wider international presence in the electric vehicle market.
The company reportedly accounted for nearly 93% of India’s electric passenger vehicle exports between April and September 2026. This figure points to the importance of the e Vitara in the country’s current EV export performance, although export leadership does not necessarily translate into the same position in domestic electric car sales.
Manufacturing capacity is another important part of the strategy. Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat has received cumulative investment of ₹25,288.7 crore and has expanded its annual production capacity to one million vehicles, according to the report. The plant supports the company’s wider manufacturing and export operations, not just electric vehicle production.
Maruti Suzuki’s international business also extends beyond EVs. The company exports 16 models to nearly 120 countries and accounted for more than half of India’s passenger vehicle exports during April–September 2026, as stated in the supplied material. Its Hansalpur facility also contributed a substantial share of the company’s overseas shipments in the 2025–26 financial year.
The export figures illustrate how Indian manufacturing facilities are increasingly serving overseas markets. For Maruti Suzuki, the e Vitara provides an entry point into the global electric SUV segment, while its established production network offers the scale to support international distribution.
The longer-term picture will depend on overseas demand, competition, production economics and how the company expands its electric vehicle range. For now, its reported export performance makes Maruti Suzuki a significant player in India’s evolving EV manufacturing story.
