Google has expanded its AI-powered learning tools by making hundreds of textbooks available to students through Gemini Notebook at no additional cost. The collection includes educational resources from publishers and providers in the United States and India, including OpenStax, Open Textbook Library and S Chand Publishing.

The feature allows students to explore textbook content and use it to support their studies. According to Google, answers generated from an added textbook include inline citations and direct links to the original source, helping learners trace information back to the material used.

Students can also transform textbook content into personalised study guides, practice quizzes, flashcards and other learning resources. These tools may help learners revise important concepts, test their understanding and organise study material around their individual needs.

The expansion builds on Google's Expert Intelligence initiative, introduced in September 2026, as part of its broader effort to help students access reliable information through its artificial intelligence products. Previously, students could add eligible e-books purchased through Google Play Books. The new feature expands access to educational materials through the platform.

To browse the available textbooks, students need to open Gemini Notebook and select “Add sources” within their notebook. They can then choose “Textbooks” to explore the available catalogue and select relevant material for their studies.

Once a textbook has been added, students can use its content to ask questions, review explanations and create learning resources. The availability of specific textbooks may depend on the catalogue offered through the platform.

The feature offers another way for students to combine digital textbooks with AI-assisted revision. However, learners should still check important information against the original material and their course requirements, particularly when preparing for examinations or completing academic assignments.
