The Delhi High Court has directed the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) to decide on two show-cause notices issued to wrestler Vinesh Phogat within two weeks.

Justice Amit Mahajan passed the order on October 29, 2026, while hearing a petition filed by the Olympic wrestler challenging the notices issued on May 9 and June 17.

During the proceedings, the court observed that athletes need to be mentally relaxed to participate effectively in competitive events. It also clarified that any decision on the two notices would remain in abeyance until the next hearing, scheduled for January 20, 2027.

Phogat’s senior counsel informed the court that the WFI had not yet passed a final order on either show-cause notice. The latest direction requires the federation to complete its decision-making process within the stipulated two-week period.

The case comes amid an ongoing dispute between the wrestler and the national wrestling body. The notices have become part of a wider legal matter concerning Phogat’s participation and her dealings with the federation.

The Delhi High Court had previously refused to allow Phogat to participate in the selection trials for the 2026 Senior World Championships.

The latest order provides a timeline for the WFI to address the pending notices while keeping the consequences of its decision on hold until the next court hearing.

The matter is scheduled to come up again on January 20, 2027, when further proceedings are expected.
