Amazon has increased its planned investment in India to $48 billion between 2026 and 2030, strengthening its focus on artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, e-commerce and digital infrastructure. The company announced an additional $13 billion investment in June 2026, building on its earlier $35 billion commitment.
The expansion reflects India's growing importance as a market for digital services and AI infrastructure. Amazon aims to strengthen its technology capabilities while supporting businesses, improving delivery networks and creating economic opportunities across the country.
A significant portion of the additional investment will support Amazon Web Services (AWS), particularly its data centre capacity in Mumbai and Hyderabad. The expansion is intended to give startups, enterprises and government organisations greater access to cloud computing, AI services, specialised chips and developer tools.
With the additional funding, Amazon's planned investment in AI and cloud infrastructure in India is expected to exceed $21 billion between 2026 and 2030. These facilities could help businesses develop and deploy AI applications while meeting their computing and data-storage needs.
Amazon's Wider Plans for Jobs and Small Businesses
The investment extends beyond technology infrastructure. Amazon also plans to expand its e-commerce logistics network, including more fulfilment centres and last-mile delivery stations, to improve access to its services across India.
By 2030, the company has outlined goals that include supporting 3.8 million jobs, enabling $80 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports, bringing AI benefits to 15 million small businesses and supporting AI education for four million government-school students. These are company targets, not confirmed future outcomes.
Amazon's increased commitment comes amid growing competition among global technology companies to build AI and cloud infrastructure in India. Google and Microsoft have also announced substantial investment plans, highlighting the country's importance in the global technology market.
The investment could support digital adoption, employment and business growth. However, its long-term impact will depend on how quickly projects are delivered, how widely businesses can access the technology and whether the promised economic benefits materialise.
