The performance was part of the District Logout gig series and featured Uthup alongside her live band. Musicians Stalvart John and Hamza Rahimtula, associated with Bengaluru-based music collective Dynamite Disco Club, later joined the performance, adding to the evening’s musical energy.

Known for her distinctive contralto voice, commanding stage presence and ability to move across genres, Uthup has built a long career spanning Indian film music, pop, jazz and international covers. Her interpretation of Rasputin, the well-known disco track originally released by Boney M. in 1978, offered audiences a live take on a song that continues to resonate with listeners across generations.

The set reportedly extended beyond disco, featuring familiar international hits such as Adele’s Skyfall and Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive. The selection reflected Uthup’s wide-ranging repertoire and her ability to connect with audiences through songs from different musical eras.

The Bengaluru performance also brought together musicians from the city’s live-music scene, with the collaboration involving Dynamite Disco Club adding another dimension to the set.

Uthup remains a distinctive presence in Indian popular music, recognised for her deep voice, individual style and performances that cross linguistic and musical boundaries. Her rendition of Rasputin illustrates the continuing appeal of live reinterpretations of familiar classics, particularly when experienced through the style of an established performer.
