Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily halted as director Matt Reeves takes time away from the project to attend to a family matter. Warner Bros. and DC Studios confirmed the pause, saying Reeves has their full support and that production is expected to resume.
The film was being shot in London with Robert Pattinson returning as Batman. Andy Serkis and Colin Farrell are also reprising their roles as Alfred and Penguin, respectively.
The sequel has added several prominent actors to its cast, including Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch.
The latest production pause adds to a series of delays surrounding the highly anticipated sequel to Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman. The movie was initially scheduled to arrive in October 2026 before Warner Bros. moved it to October 2027. The studio later pushed the release again, with The Batman Part II now scheduled for February 2028.
The first The Batman, starring Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, was released in March 2022 and launched a separate Batman storyline outside the main DC Universe continuity.
DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn previously defended the sequel’s extended timeline, noting that long gaps between major film sequels are not unusual.
For now, the latest pause is temporary, with the studio expressing support for Reeves as he deals with the family matter.
