Radhika Apte has questioned the idea that a larger face on a film poster signals success, calling the focus on poster placement “petty” as she discussed her career and upcoming Netflix series, Akka.

Nearly two decades into acting, Radhika said she still does not fully understand why her role choices are repeatedly described as unconventional or risky. She believes the label has become part of her public image, despite her own doubts about it.

Starring alongside Keerthy Suresh, Akka is a crime drama set in the 1980s in Pernuru, a fictional town governed by women. The story follows a conflict between Keerthy’s protagonist and Radhika’s antagonist, who challenges the established power structure.

Radhika said one aspect that attracted her to the project was its morally complex characters. Rather than presenting a straightforward hero-versus-villain story, the series gives both central characters shades of grey.

Her comments reflect an approach to acting that prioritises the role and the story over conventional markers of visibility, including how prominently an actor appears on a promotional poster.
