Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery have officially completed their $110 billion merger, bringing the two entertainment companies together under the newly formed Skydance Corp. The completion of the deal was followed by a warning to employees that the integration process could involve layoffs and other difficult workforce decisions.
In a memo titled “Day 1,” Paramount Skydance chairman and CEO David Ellison and co-CEO Ynon Kreiz told employees that combining the two companies would bring significant change. The executives said some decisions would affect the workforce, while stressing that the process would be handled thoughtfully and respectfully.
The 1,705-word memo outlined the leadership’s broader vision for Skydance Corp. The company aims to build a next-generation media and entertainment business driven by creativity and technology. Rather than simply adding production capacity, brands and intellectual property, the executives said the merger is intended to bring together talent, resources and capabilities to create a stronger competitor with greater scale.
The merger combines major entertainment assets associated with both companies and comes after months of discussions surrounding consolidation and its potential impact on the industry. For employees, however, the immediate focus is expected to remain on the integration process and the workforce changes that may follow.
