Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s political faction, B’Yachad, has announced its support for Gadi Eisenkot to form the country’s next government following the October 27 Knesset elections.

Bennett said his faction would recommend Eisenkot, leader of the Yashar party, to President Isaac Herzog for the task of forming the next government. The announcement comes amid a political deadlock, with leaders facing pressure to find a way forward without sending the country into another election.

In a post on social media platform X on November 1, Bennett said he had promised during the election campaign to respect the voters’ decision and was following through on that commitment.

He stated that B’Yachad would recommend Eisenkot to the President to receive the mandate to form the government. Bennett also wished Eisenkot success in the process.

The development comes as President Isaac Herzog has urged political leaders to accept the election results and explore creative solutions to resolve the political impasse.

Herzog’s appeal reflects the challenge of building a governing coalition after the election. The support announced by Bennett’s faction adds another political development to the negotiations over the formation of Israel’s next government.

However, the announcement is a recommendation to the President and does not itself mean that Eisenkot has secured the mandate or formed a government. The next steps will depend on the President’s decision and the ability of political parties to assemble sufficient support.
