Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan has called on Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University in New Delhi to develop into a leading international centre for Sanskrit studies.
Addressing the university’s second convocation, Radhakrishnan stressed the need for greater scholarly engagement with India’s Sanskrit and manuscript heritage. He urged the institution to focus on discovering, preserving, critically editing and publishing unpublished Sanskrit manuscripts.
The Vice-President also encouraged faculty members and students to use Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies to preserve, research and promote Sanskrit.
Radhakrishnan highlighted the university’s transformation from a Sanskrit Vidyapeetha into a Central University and said it should build on this legacy to strengthen its position as a centre of excellence. He also praised the institution for receiving the highest NAAC grade of A++ and conducting research across multiple areas of the Indian Knowledge Tradition.
He emphasised the importance of making rare Sanskrit texts accessible to future generations and referred to the Gyan Bharatam Mission, which has a foundational corpus of ₹500 crore for manuscript preservation and documentation.
Radhakrishnan described Sanskrit as a “golden string” connecting India’s diverse linguistic traditions. He also cited the National Education Policy 2020 and the Ashtadashi scheme as initiatives supporting Sanskrit and the Indian Knowledge System.
The Vice-President urged graduating students to remain lifelong learners, use technology responsibly and balance social media use with reading, learning and skill development.
