A collective of bouncers in Hyderabad has raised serious concerns over discrimination and denial of work opportunities during the ongoing Dasara Navratri Dandiya events.
According to members of the group, organisers have allegedly begun profiling workers and ensuring that Muslim bouncers are excluded from contracts. “Earlier, we used to get assignments for most of the Dandiya events across the city. This year, many of my colleagues have been told Muslims are not welcome. My team has 10 members, and some are not even Muslim — how will I pay them now?” said Mohammed Feroz, part of the 200‑member collective.
The bouncers, who specialize in crowd management and safety, argue that religion has no role in their profession. “All that is required is personality, physique, and experience. We don’t even interact with guests beyond ensuring security,” Feroz added, expressing shock at the sudden change in hiring practices.
The allegations have sparked debate about communal bias in employment and the impact on livelihoods of workers who depend on seasonal contracts. With Dandiya events being a major source of income during Navratri, the exclusion has left many struggling financially.
Authorities are yet to respond formally, but the issue highlights growing concerns about religious discrimination in public celebrations and its effect on social harmony.
