Heart attack survivor Shaumit Biswas says walking helped him lose more than 40 kg as part of his journey towards better health. Sharing his experience on Instagram, Biswas highlighted how everyday movement became an important part of his recovery and weight management. Biswas suffered a heart attack at the age of 31, which he attributed to a genetically driven marker called Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a). He said walking on a walking pad played a significant role in his efforts to improve his health. “Walking became a game changer in my journey as a heart attack survivor who had to lose 40+ kgs to become healthy,” he shared, adding that the goal was not necessarily to reach 10,000 steps but to focus on when and how movement fits into daily life. Biswas described walking as a low-effort activity that can help people increase their daily movement and calorie expenditure. Unlike intensive gym workouts, walking can be incorporated into everyday routines and adjusted according to individual fitness levels. He also emphasised walking after meals, saying he made it a regular habit. According to Biswas, even a 10–15-minute walk after eating can help people stay active and support blood sugar management. Walking after meals may offer benefits for blood glucose levels, particularly when compared with remaining seated for prolonged periods. However, weight loss depends on several factors, including overall dietary intake, activity levels and individual health. Biswas’s experience highlights how small, consistent steps can become part of a broader lifestyle change. His account began with just 41 steps, illustrating the importance he placed on starting gradually rather than immediately aiming for a high step count. People recovering from a heart attack should consult their cardiologist or cardiac rehabilitation team before beginning or changing an exercise routine. Individual exercise recommendations depend on recovery, heart function and other medical factors.
