Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas and All India Students’ Association president Neha were among several protesters allegedly injured while being detained by security personnel, according to a report by The Hindu.

The situation also raised concerns about press freedom after around a dozen journalists were reportedly detained at different locations while covering the demonstrations. The detentions took place despite Supreme Court directives issued on Saturday, October 10. Delhi Police had not officially announced the total number of people detained on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi announced a march to the Supreme Court, appealing to people to join the INDIA bloc’s protest. The planned march has added a new dimension to the ongoing political confrontation over demands for the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation.

The protest’s focal point has also shifted from Jantar Mantar to Connaught Place, where security forces were deployed as members of student and youth organisations continued their demonstrations.

With another round of protests expected, authorities are reportedly preparing to reimpose restrictions to manage the situation. The developments have drawn attention to the handling of demonstrations, the treatment of journalists covering public protests and the broader political dispute surrounding the Election Commission.

Further details about the planned march, possible restrictions and the number of detainees are awaited.
