Union Minister Chirag Paswan said the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) is prepared to contest all 403 seats in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election if it cannot reach an alliance agreement with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Speaking at a Nav Sankalp Mahasabha in Varanasi on November 5, Paswan said it was too early to confirm how the party would contest. He described an alliance as the preferred route, while keeping a solo campaign as an option if seat-sharing talks fail. Formal seat-sharing discussions for Uttar Pradesh have not yet begun.
Paswan said LJP (Ram Vilas) remains an NDA partner at the Centre and in Bihar. He also referred to working with allies in Jharkhand. He cited the party’s independent run in Nagaland in 2023, where it won two Assembly seats, as an example of its ability to contest alone.
The Varanasi gathering launched the party’s preparations for the UP polls. It was the first in a series of Nav Sankalp Mahasabhas planned across the state’s commissionerates and districts. Paswan said the organisation has identified priority constituencies, including “A-category” seats, and plans more meetings as it assesses its support base.
The party is scheduled to mark its foundation day in Lucknow on November 28. The event is part of its effort to build a statewide presence before seat-sharing discussions begin.
Paswan framed the solo option as a contingency while keeping the NDA alliance as his preferred route for Uttar Pradesh. No formal seat-sharing agreement has been announced yet.
