The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dismissed the Congress‑led protest march to the Election Commission of India (ECI) as a “political drama,” accusing Rahul Gandhi and his party of spreading “lies” to mislead citizens.

At a late‑evening press conference, BJP spokesperson and MP Sudhanshu Trivedi cited the ECI’s official statement, which clarified that the poll panel had not received any request for a meeting from either the Congress or any other constituent of the INDIA bloc.

The protest, led by Rahul Gandhi and opposition MPs, was staged against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with the Congress alleging irregularities and “vote theft.” However, the BJP argued that the opposition’s claims were baseless and designed to create unnecessary political tension.

Trivedi said the ECI’s clarification exposed the Congress’s narrative, reinforcing the BJP’s position that the protest was orchestrated for optics rather than genuine concerns. The ruling party maintained that the opposition was attempting to undermine public trust in democratic institutions.

The confrontation highlights the deepening political divide, with the BJP framing the protest as theatrics while the opposition insists it is fighting for electoral transparency.
