The incident took place at Hotel Conrad, operated by the Hilton Group, on October 30, 2026. According to the report, the incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. at the hotel's swimming pool on the third floor.

Those present at the pool included Alexander Maximilian Theiss, a 57-year-old German national and Lufthansa Airlines crew member, who was staying in Bengaluru between flight schedules after arriving from Frankfurt. Also present were Juraj Horvat, a 45-year-old Slovakian national visiting India on holiday with his wife, and 41-year-old American national Mathew Desantis.

The deaths have drawn attention to the safety measures required at swimming pools, particularly in hotels where electrical installations, routine maintenance and emergency response systems are critical to guest safety.

The incident also raises broader questions about how swimming pool areas are inspected and maintained, and whether adequate precautions are in place to prevent electrical hazards.
