Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) convenor Abhijeet Dipke on Monday accused the Narendra Modi-led government of waging a “war against citizens” to protect Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. His remarks come amid growing political demands for the CEC’s resignation.
Dipke alleged that young people, journalists and Members of Parliament were being assaulted by Delhi Police during protests linked to the ongoing political controversy. His allegations have added to the debate surrounding the handling of demonstrations in the national capital and calls for accountability from the authorities.
The CJP convenor made the remarks as he returned to his native village, Santuk Pimpri, in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district, late on Sunday, October 11. He also visited the place where his grandmother’s last rites had been performed.
Despite the personal loss, Dipke’s comments brought attention back to the political developments surrounding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the protests demanding his resignation.
The controversy has intensified discussions about the conduct of law enforcement agencies, the treatment of demonstrators and the responsibilities of the government during politically sensitive situations.
Dipke’s allegations against the Modi government and Delhi Police remain claims attributed to him. Further independent confirmation of the alleged assaults was not included in the information available for this report.
The developments come amid wider opposition criticism of the government and renewed questions about the role of constitutional institutions, police accountability and citizens’ rights to demonstrate peacefully.
The political situation is likely to remain under scrutiny as opposition parties continue to raise concerns over the CEC and the government’s response to the protests.
