The Delhi High Court has declined to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a stay on the theatrical release of Sunny Deol’s upcoming film Suryaa: Ant Se Aarambh Tak. The film is scheduled to release in cinemas on November 20, 2026.
A division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre and Justice Sanjay Sharma said there was no reason to entertain the fresh petition because a similar case was already pending before a single-judge bench. The existing matter is scheduled for a hearing on November 16.
The PIL was filed by Dr Nachiketa Bhatia and Dr Dhruv Chauhan, who objected to the film’s portrayal of medical professionals. They alleged that its official teaser depicts physical violence against doctors and other healthcare workers as heroic and unfairly portrays corruption as widespread across the healthcare sector.
The petitioners had sought directions to the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to examine the allegedly objectionable scenes and dialogues and consider modifying or removing them. They also sought an interim stay on the film’s public screening.
The court permitted the petitioners to join the proceedings in the existing case and pursue their representation before the relevant authorities.
The latest decision does not amount to a judicial finding that the objections to the film are unfounded. The court declined to take up the fresh PIL because similar proceedings were already underway. The CBFC’s certification process was also reported to be pending at the time of the hearing.
