Speaking with Prakhar Gupta on his podcast, Rashmika said she was new to the film industry when they began shooting the 2018 Telugu romantic drama. Vijay had already worked in several films, so she initially addressed him as “sir.”

On the first day, Rashmika was playing music on set when Vijay asked her to turn it off. He later admitted that he had spoken bluntly without considering how his words might affect someone he had only just met. The two were also sharing a locked caravan at the time, which contributed to the situation.

For Rashmika, however, the remark felt particularly harsh because she was new to the industry. Vijay recalled that she had tears in her eyes and thought he did not like her. Rashmika said she kept those feelings to herself for a long time.

Their equation gradually changed during the film. Vijay helped her with dialogues and encouraged her to stop calling him “sir.” They eventually became friends and later reunited for Dear Comrade in 2019.

The couple will next appear together in Ranabaali, directed by Rahul Sankrityan and scheduled for release on October 16, 2026.
