Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming Ramayana Part I: Rise of Legend faces high box-office expectations, with reports suggesting that the film may need around ₹5,000 crore in worldwide collections to break even. The estimate is based on its reported ₹2,000-crore budget and a commonly used industry calculation.

Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana, the film is among the most ambitious projects in Indian cinema. However, its actual break-even point will depend on distribution agreements, marketing expenses and revenue from sources beyond ticket sales.

Trade expert Ramesh Bala has cited a general box-office rule that a film may need to earn around 2.5 times its budget to reach break-even. Applying this calculation to a reported ₹2,000-crore budget gives an estimated worldwide target of ₹5,000 crore.

This is only an indicative figure, not a confirmed financial requirement. A film’s box-office collection is not the same as the revenue received by its producers, as theatres and distributors share ticket earnings.

According to Sacnilk data cited by India Today, as of 2:20 pm on October 22, the film had sold around 1.33 lakh tickets across 3,749 shows in India, generating approximately ₹7.52 crore in advance sales. Bookings were not yet open across several screens, so the figures offered only an early indication of demand.

Bala suggested that domestic advance bookings of ₹75 crore to ₹100 crore could help build strong opening-day momentum. He also estimated that worldwide pre-sales of ₹150 crore to ₹200 crore would provide a significant boost.

Ultimately, Ramayana will need more than a strong opening to justify its reported budget. Its theatrical performance, international reach and additional revenue streams will help determine whether it can recover its investment and turn a profit.

Important note: The ₹2,000-crore budget and ₹5,000-crore break-even figure are reported estimates, not confirmed financial disclosures.
