The march, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, began amid heavy security deployment and barricading around Parliament and the ECI office. Security personnel, including Rapid Action Force (RAF) units, were stationed in the area well before MPs arrived, ensuring tight control over the protest route.

The detention of top Congress leaders marks a dramatic escalation in the opposition’s campaign against the Election Commission, which has faced criticism following Supreme Court observations on voter registration processes. The INDIA bloc has accused the poll panel of undermining democratic rights through arbitrary changes in electoral rolls.

The protest is part of a larger nationwide movement by opposition parties, who have been holding rallies and marches demanding accountability and transparency in the functioning of the ECI. With Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi at the forefront, the march drew significant public attention, highlighting the growing confrontation between the opposition and the Commission.
