Unauthorised Pakistani cosmetics seized during raids in Hyderabad have led investigators to a suspected supply chain linked to Mumbai’s Crawford Market. Authorities seized cosmetic products worth around ₹7 lakh from three shops in the city, including whitening creams and soaps allegedly manufactured in Pakistan.
The Hyderabad investigation comes amid a public health alert issued by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) against two Pakistan-made whitening creams. Goree Beauty Cream and Chandni Whitening Cream were found by the regulator to be unauthorised for import into India and to contain excessive levels of heavy metals beyond specified limits. CDSCO warned that the products could pose health risks, including toxic effects.
During the Hyderabad raids, officials inspected shops in the Nampally and Habeeb Nagar areas and identified products suspected of being brought into the country without the required import registration. Police have been investigating the Mumbai-based supply network and the route through which the products reached Hyderabad.
Samples of the seized products have been sent for forensic examination to determine their composition. Investigators are also examining claims that some preparations may have involved the mixing of other substances with cosmetic products. The precise composition and potential health implications of these preparations will depend on the laboratory findings.
CDSCO’s September 8 public notice advises consumers not to purchase or use Goree Beauty Cream and Chandni Whitening Cream. The regulator has also asked authorities to prevent the sale and distribution of the identified products.
The investigation is continuing as officials work to identify suppliers, trace the import route and determine how the unauthorised cosmetics entered local markets.
