According to officials, Pakistani intelligence operatives allegedly posed as women on Facebook, luring naval personnel into conversations before moving them to WhatsApp. Using accounts activated with Indian OTPs, the operatives sought sensitive information on ship and submarine movements.

The crackdown was led by Andhra Pradesh’s Counter Intelligence Cell (CIC) in coordination with Naval Intelligence and Anti‑Terrorist Squads (ATS) across 10 states. Investigators revealed that 18 suspects, including 13 naval personnel, are under probe, with two already in custody.

Authorities said the network’s modus operandi relied on exploiting social media vulnerabilities and personal interactions to gather field intelligence. The operation exposed how adversaries are increasingly using digital platforms to infiltrate military ranks.

Officials emphasized that the swift action prevented potential leaks of critical operational data. The case highlights the importance of cyber vigilance within the armed forces and the need for continuous awareness programs to counter honey‑trap tactics.

Operation Firewall‑2026 is being hailed as a significant success in safeguarding India’s maritime security, reinforcing the Navy’s resilience against covert threats.
