Leaders of the INDIA bloc staged a peaceful protest at Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial, Rajghat, on Thursday, accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of “hijacking democracy” through alleged ‘vote chori’ (vote theft).

Senior Congress leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined MPs and allies in offering prayers at Gandhi’s memorial, seeking “wisdom” for the BJP government and the Election Commission. The symbolic act was aimed at highlighting what the Opposition described as a criminal conspiracy undermining free and fair elections.

The leaders announced that their protest would continue on Friday (October 9), with a meeting likely to be held at Parliament House in the morning to decide further steps.

Meanwhile, outside Parliament, student organisations such as the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and AISA have called for united mobilisation against the CEC, ahead of their planned October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar.

The Opposition’s Rajghat demonstration adds momentum to a series of nationwide protests challenging the Election Commission’s credibility, as calls for CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation grow louder.
