Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan’s film Udta Teer has hit a roadblock in Nepal after authorities refused permission for its public screening ahead of its theatrical release. The decision followed a review by Nepal’s Central Film Censor Board, which found that the film violated a provision of the country’s cinema law.

According to reports, Nepal’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology informed the film’s local distributor that permission for public exhibition would not be granted. The board reportedly reviewed the film under the country’s cinema regulations before recommending the restriction.

However, officials have not publicly clarified which specific scenes or elements of the film led to the decision. Some media reports have suggested that the story’s focus on India-Pakistan tensions may have contributed to the move, but this has not been officially confirmed.

Udta Teer follows Bilal Ahmed, a Pakistani spy who enters India and loses his memory after an accident. He then begins to believe that he is an Indian intelligence officer, setting the stage for a mix of comedy, action and patriotic themes.

Directed by Aakash Kaushik, the film features Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan in the lead roles. Its supporting cast includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover and the late Mukul Dev. The film is produced by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.

The restriction means the film cannot be screened publicly in Nepal for now, despite its scheduled theatrical release in India on October 23, 2026. Whether the decision will be reconsidered remains unclear.

The development highlights how films dealing with politically sensitive subjects can face different regulatory hurdles across international markets.
