Veteran actor Nana Patekar’s last rites were performed late Thursday night at his family’s farmhouse in Donje village near Pune, following his death from cardiac arrest in Goa on October 8. His son, Malhar Patekar, explained that delays in transporting his father’s mortal remains meant the funeral could not take place as early as the family had initially expected.

According to Malhar, the family had anticipated that the remains would reach the village sooner. However, the transportation delay pushed the schedule back. With several hours already having passed since Nana Patekar’s death in the early hours of Thursday, the family decided to complete the final rites that same day.

The cremation took place at around 11:30 pm at the family’s farmhouse, popularly known as Nanachi Wadi, in Donje on the outskirts of Pune. The veteran actor was accorded full state honours in recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema.

Nana Patekar, 75, was widely respected for his performances across Hindi and Marathi films during a career spanning several decades. His death prompted tributes from colleagues, public figures and fans across the country.

The late-night cremation was therefore attributed to the delay in transportation and the family’s decision to conduct the last rites on Thursday itself.
