In a post on social media platform X, Modi referred to elections across 28 Legislative Council constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Karnataka. He questioned Congress's performance despite the use of ballot papers, a voting method that opposition parties have highlighted in their criticism of EVMs.

The results announced on Wednesday showed Congress failing to win a seat in Karnataka. In Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured five Legislative Council seats, while the Samajwadi Party won three.

The elections were part of the biennial polls for seats in the states' legislative councils, the upper houses of their respective state legislatures.

Modi used the results to challenge the Congress party's arguments concerning voting methods and its electoral performance. His remarks added to the political debate between the ruling BJP and opposition parties over election procedures and accountability.

The outcome across the four states is likely to remain part of the wider political discussion as parties assess their performances and prepare for upcoming electoral contests.
