The investigation, named ‘Operation Dignity’, was launched after police received information that administrators and users of several Telegram channels were allegedly sharing, trading and earning money from non-consensual explicit photographs and videos of local women.

According to police, the material allegedly included child sexual abuse material, raising serious concerns about online exploitation and the misuse of digital platforms.

An FIR was registered at Moirang police station in Bishnupur district following the complaint. Investigators subsequently initiated action against individuals suspected of being involved in circulating and monetising the material.

The operation highlights growing concerns about the use of messaging applications and online channels to distribute intimate content without consent. Such activities can cause severe harm to victims, violate their privacy and expose them to further exploitation.

The inclusion of alleged child sexual abuse material makes the case particularly serious, as the circulation of such content involves significant legal and child-protection concerns.

Police have not disclosed further details about the identities of those arrested or the full extent of the alleged network in the initial information released. The investigation is expected to establish the roles of the suspects, the functioning of the Telegram channels and the extent of the alleged distribution.

The action under ‘Operation Dignity’ underscores the importance of reporting online abuse and investigating the unauthorised sharing of intimate material.

Authorities’ next steps will be crucial in determining the scale of the alleged operation and ensuring that the case proceeds through the appropriate legal process, with due attention to the privacy and protection of victims.
