Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 is heading towards a highly anticipated theatrical release, with advance bookings pointing to the possibility of a major opening at the worldwide box office. The sequel, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 15, 2026. According to trade estimates reported ahead of its release, the film could collect between ₹125 crore and ₹140 crore worldwide on its opening day, although the final figure will depend on audience turnout and actual ticket sales.
Advance bookings reportedly began in India on October 10, while select overseas markets opened sales a day earlier. By the morning of October 14, the film had crossed ₹80 crore in worldwide advance bookings for its opening weekend, according to the figures cited in trade reports. Its opening-day advance sales in India were estimated at around ₹27 crore gross, placing it among the strongest advance-booking performances for a Rajinikanth film.
Trade expectations suggest that Jailer 2 could collect more than ₹50 crore on its first day in India. Some estimates put the potential worldwide opening above ₹125 crore, with optimistic projections reaching ₹140 crore. These figures remain predictions rather than confirmed box-office results, as the film had not yet been released at the time of the reported estimates.
Overseas markets are expected to play an important role in the film’s opening. Reports put its overseas advance sales above $3 million, while some trade estimates suggest that opening-day overseas revenue could reach $7 million to $8 million. If those projections materialise alongside strong domestic collections, the sequel could secure a place among the biggest worldwide openings for a Tamil film.
The projected ₹140-crore opening has also drawn comparisons with several major Indian releases. Based on the figures cited in the report, such a start would put Jailer 2 ahead of the reported opening-day worldwide grosses of films such as Toxic, Jawan and Animal. However, it would still fall short of the reported openings of Coolie and Leo, as well as the much larger opening attributed to Dhurandhar 2. Comparisons should be treated cautiously because reported box-office figures can vary depending on the source and whether they refer to gross collections, net collections or advance sales.
The first Jailer, released in 2023, reportedly opened with around ₹91 crore worldwide, while Coolie set a new benchmark for Tamil cinema with a reported opening of approximately ₹151 crore. The sequel’s eventual performance will determine whether Rajinikanth can improve on the earlier film’s opening and challenge the records set by recent releases.
Jailer 2 brings Nelson Dilipkumar back as writer and director, with Kalanithi Maran producing the film under the Sun Pictures banner. The cast includes Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and Mirnaa, while Mammootty and Shiva Rajkumar are expected to appear in cameos, continuing the multi-star approach associated with the first film. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music.
With strong advance-booking reports and high expectations among fans, Jailer 2 is positioned for a significant opening. Whether it reaches the projected ₹140-crore mark will depend on the actual release-day response across India and overseas markets. The opening-day estimates will only be confirmed once reliable collection figures become available after the film enters cinemas.
