India head coach Gautam Gambhir has praised the Shreyas Iyer-led team for winning the T20 series against New Zealand, saying the players have set the tone for the remaining matches of the ongoing tour.
India defeated New Zealand 3-2 in the five-match T20 series despite facing limited preparation time and a demanding travel schedule. The Indian team arrived in New Zealand just a couple of days before the opening match and had little time to rest and recover between games played across four different venues.
Addressing the players in the dressing room, Gambhir praised their commitment and performance against a strong New Zealand side on home soil.
He said the team should be proud of its achievement, particularly given that it had only one day to prepare before the series began.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video of Gambhir's dressing-room speech on its social media platforms.
The coach's remarks highlighted the importance of the T20 series victory ahead of India's upcoming One Day International (ODI) and Test assignments against New Zealand.
The series win provides India with a positive start to the tour and gives the team an opportunity to carry its momentum into the longer formats.
With the T20 assignment completed, attention will now shift towards the ODI and Test matches, where India will face different challenges against the hosts.
