New Zealand have suffered an injury setback ahead of their five-match One Day International (ODI) series against India, with senior batters Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra ruled out of the upcoming matches.
New Zealand Cricket confirmed on Monday, November 2, 2026, that both players had failed to recover sufficiently from their respective injuries. The series is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, November 4.
Chapman is recovering from a hamstring injury, while Ravindra continues to experience problems with his right shoulder.
According to New Zealand Cricket, a recent MRI scan showed that Chapman's left hamstring requires another two weeks of rehabilitation before he can return to competitive cricket. Ravindra's shoulder also needs additional recovery time before he can field at full capacity.
In response to the injuries, New Zealand have included Henry Nicholls and Tim Seifert in the squad. Seifert, who was initially selected for the fourth and fifth ODIs, will now be available for the entire series against India.
The absence of Chapman and Ravindra is a setback for New Zealand's batting options ahead of a challenging home series against India.
With the opening ODI approaching, the team management will need to adjust its combination and rely on the available players to fill the gaps left by the injured batters.
