Four pharmacies in Hyderabad have been issued show-cause notices after joint inspections found alleged discrepancies in records related to the purchase and sale of habit-forming medicines. The inspections were conducted by the EAGLE Force and Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE).
The inspections covered establishments in Masab Tank, Mallepally and Tolichowki. Officials examined whether pharmacies were complying with requirements governing the purchase, storage and sale of regulated medicines, including Schedule H and H1 drugs.
At Al-Hamra Medical & General Store in Masab Tank, officials found that prescribed registers and sale bills for certain medicines were either not maintained or not produced for verification. Similar deficiencies were reported at MM Medical and General Store, operating as MED24 Pharmacy, in Mallepally.
At First Step Drug Mart in Tolichowki, the pharmacist was reportedly absent during the inspection. Officials also found that the Schedule H1 drugs register was not produced and noted discrepancies in purchase and sale records involving habit-forming medicines.
At Hayat Pharmacy, also in Tolichowki, officials said the required Schedule H1 and prescription registers, along with certain sale bills, were not produced for verification.
Show-cause notices were subsequently issued to all four establishments over the alleged regulatory deficiencies. Further action is expected under applicable provisions governing pharmaceutical sales and record-keeping.
The inspections underline the importance of maintaining accurate prescription, purchase and sale records when dealing with regulated medicines.
