Elon Musk has said SpaceX will rename its artificial intelligence unit SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, following US President Donald Trump’s push to replace the term “Artificial Intelligence” with “Super Intelligence” or “SI”.
Musk confirmed the proposed name change in a post on X after a user asked whether SpaceXAI would be renamed SpaceXSI. He replied, “Yes, we will make that change.” Musk also separately endorsed the terminology, saying there would be “No more AI” and that SI was better. (reuters.com)
The move follows an executive order signed by Trump on September 29 directing US executive departments and agencies to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in official communications, websites, reports, policy documents and other non-statutory material. The order defines SI using the existing federal statutory definition of artificial intelligence.
The order does not require private companies to adopt the terminology. Musk’s decision therefore represents a corporate branding move rather than a direct requirement under the presidential order.
SpaceXAI’s social media account had not been renamed at the time of Reuters’ report, and Musk did not provide a timeline for when the change would be completed. SpaceXAI also did not immediately comment on the proposed rebranding. (reuters.com)
The terminology shift is part of the Trump administration’s broader effort to promote “Super Intelligence” as the preferred government term for advanced AI technologies. The White House says the change is intended to reflect the increasing capabilities of modern AI systems.
