Google Wallet is expanding its digital identification support on Android with the addition of Oklahoma driver’s licenses and state IDs. The rollout makes Oklahoma the latest US location supported by the Wallet app’s digital ID feature.
Eligible Oklahoma residents can add their driver’s license or state ID through Google Wallet by opening the app, selecting the option to add a new item and choosing the driver’s license or state ID option. The enrollment process requires photos of the front and back of the physical ID, along with a short video for identity verification. The information is reviewed by the issuing state agency before the digital ID becomes available.
Once added, the digital ID can be presented at participating locations using supported verification methods. Users can review the information being requested before approving the transaction, while the credential is protected through device security and authentication.
Oklahoma says its Digital ID can be used at selected airports, businesses, restaurants, sports venues and other participating locations. However, residents are still advised to carry their physical driver’s license or state ID because the digital version does not replace the physical document in every situation.
Google’s support documentation also notes that digital IDs are not universally accepted and that users should check whether the requesting organisation supports them. Android users need a compatible device, screen lock and Bluetooth/Nearby Devices enabled for the feature.
The Oklahoma rollout adds another state to Google Wallet’s growing digital ID ecosystem, as governments and technology companies continue expanding mobile-based identity verification.
