Singer Daler Mehndi has received support from several prominent names in the Indian music and entertainment industry after a video of his performance being interrupted at an event in Uttarakhand went viral. Mika Singh, Badshah, Alisha Chinai, Harshdeep Kaur, Shaan and Kapil Sharma were among those who reportedly spoke in his support.
The incident took place during a Navratri event in New Tehri, in the Tehri Garhwal region. Uttarakhand minister Subodh Uniyal reportedly interrupted Mehndi while he was performing and questioned his ability to sing, alleging that the singer was intoxicated.
The episode drew reactions from fellow artistes, who criticised the way the veteran performer was addressed in public. Some pointed to reports that Mehndi had recently undergone surgery and was dealing with health issues. They argued that performers should be treated with dignity, particularly when they may be recovering from medical procedures.
Daler Mehndi rose to prominence during the 1990s, becoming one of the recognisable voices of Indian pop music. His energetic performances and distinctive style helped popularise the genre among mainstream audiences.
The controversy has since prompted wider discussion on social media about the treatment of performers at public events. However, the available report does not independently establish the minister’s allegation about intoxication. The incident and the responses from fellow artistes should therefore be understood in the context of the reported events and attributed statements.
