On Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Odisha officials said preparations were underway to move vulnerable residents to safer locations ahead of the storm’s expected impact. The evacuation plan aims to reduce risks to people living in areas likely to experience severe weather.

Addressing a press conference, Special Relief Commissioner Rajesh Pravakar Patil said Cyclone Arnab had been moving at approximately 22 kilometres per hour over the previous six hours.

According to the official, the storm was expected to cross the Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam on October 28. Odisha’s Malkangiri district was also expected to be affected as the cyclone moved across the region.

The state government is focusing on evacuating residents from vulnerable areas and preparing for the possibility of intense rainfall and damaging winds. People in the affected districts are advised to follow official weather bulletins and instructions from local authorities.

Cyclones can pose serious risks through flooding, fallen trees, damage to homes and disruptions to transport and electricity. Moving people to designated safe shelters before conditions deteriorate is a key part of disaster preparedness.

With the storm expected to approach the coast on Wednesday, authorities are preparing for its potential effects in southern Odisha. Residents should rely on updates from the India Meteorological Department and Odisha’s disaster management authorities for the latest warnings and evacuation guidance.
