Union Minister and NDA ally Chirag Paswan has called on Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar to publicly clarify his stance following revelations of internal rifts within the Election Commission of India (ECI).

Paswan’s remarks come in the wake of an Indian Express investigation that exposed dissent among commissioners over alleged unilateral decisions, voter‑roll changes, and procedural irregularities. He stressed that the credibility of India’s electoral process depends on transparency and accountability.

“If questions are being raised on the Election Commission, which is an independent constitutional body, responsibility lies with the CEC to present his stance clearly. It is problematic if people begin to doubt the electoral process itself. The EC needs to present its stance, not to Rahul Gandhi, but to the public,” Paswan said.

As opposition parties intensify demands for Kumar’s resignation, Paswan’s statement underscores growing concern even among ruling alliance partners. Analysts note that his intervention highlights the importance of reassuring citizens about the integrity of elections, especially amid widespread protests and scrutiny of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

The controversy has reignited debates on safeguarding voter rights and ensuring that India’s democratic institutions remain free from suspicion.
