Civil society groups and student organisations have intensified calls for a nationwide mobilisation demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, ahead of the planned October 10 protest at Jantar Mantar.
At a press briefing, activist Saurav Das accused authorities of ignoring widespread concerns over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He praised civil society groups in Karnataka for documenting these irregularities and urged citizens across India to join the peaceful demonstration.
Das alleged that youth associated with the movement have faced mass detentions across several States, describing it as an attempt to suppress dissent. “We will not be silenced. This is about safeguarding democracy and ensuring every vote counts,” he said.
Organisers stressed that the October 10 protest would remain peaceful but warned that continued government inaction could erode public trust in electoral institutions. The mobilisation is expected to draw students, activists, and opposition voices, adding momentum to growing demands for accountability from the Election Commission.
The rally at Jantar Mantar is being positioned as a defining moment in the fight for electoral transparency, with organisers framing it as a people’s movement against “vote theft.”
