Union Home Minister Amit Shah has launched a sharp attack on the Congress over protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, predicting another major victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Shah claimed that the Congress would face its fourth consecutive defeat in the general elections, while the NDA would return to power with an overwhelming majority.
His remarks came after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a victory in Gujarat’s local body elections, which Shah presented as a sign of continued public support for the party and its political alliance.
Criticising the Congress-led opposition’s demonstrations against the electoral roll revision exercise, Shah argued that public trust could not be built through political events and what he described as misleading claims.
“The trust of the people cannot be earned through manufactured media events and the echo of falsehoods,” Shah said.
He also questioned the scale and significance of an opposition gathering, claiming that approximately 8,000 people had been brought together within a 1.5-kilometre area, with party workers from 14 political parties participating.
Shah argued that such a gathering could not be considered representative of the country’s public opinion.
The remarks underline the growing political confrontation between the BJP and the opposition over the SIR exercise, which has become a subject of political debate.
With the 2029 Lok Sabha elections still ahead, Shah’s comments signal the BJP’s confidence in its electoral prospects and intensifying political competition between the ruling alliance and the Congress-led opposition.
