The programme will follow an online, self-learning format, allowing working teachers to pursue the course alongside their professional responsibilities. Graduates from any discipline are eligible to apply, with primary school teachers and educators working in rural areas expected to benefit from the initiative.

The diploma is designed to help teachers examine classroom challenges systematically rather than relying only on observation or personal experience. By applying research methods to everyday teaching situations, educators can assess whether particular teaching approaches or classroom interventions are making a measurable difference to students' learning.

The curriculum will cover research methodology, data collection, data analysis and report writing. These skills are intended to help teachers identify difficulties students face during lessons, evaluate the effectiveness of different teaching methods and assess the outcomes of initiatives introduced to improve learning.

For example, teachers may be able to use structured research to understand why students struggle with a particular topic, compare different approaches to explaining it and document whether a revised teaching strategy improves understanding. The programme is also expected to help educators evaluate school-level initiatives and present their findings in a systematic manner.

YCMOU has signed a memorandum of understanding with Pune-based educational organisation Supermind for the development and implementation of the programme. University Vice-Chancellor Sanjeev Sonawane said the course would help teachers scientifically evaluate the approaches they use to address classroom challenges and measure student progress.

The use of Marathi as the medium of instruction may make the programme more accessible to educators who prefer learning academic concepts in the language. Its online, self-learning structure may also offer flexibility to teachers who cannot easily attend regular classroom-based courses because of their work or location.

The university's official website lists the Diploma in Educational Research under programme code D144 for the 2026–27 academic year. Prospective applicants should consult the official programme page and prospectus to confirm admission procedures, eligibility documentation, fees, course requirements and application deadlines before enrolling.

For teachers looking to strengthen their professional practice, the diploma offers an opportunity to develop research skills that can be applied directly to classroom teaching and school improvement. By encouraging educators to collect evidence, analyse results and document their findings, the programme aims to connect educational research with practical teaching challenges.
