Raising the powerful slogan “Women will bring inquilab (revolution)”, thousands of protesters joined the Chappal Protest in Bengaluru to demand justice and equality for women facing violence and discrimination across India.
Organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), the demonstration followed a lengthy people’s tribunal and drew widespread participation from civil society groups, students, and activists. Protesters symbolically raised their footwear — a gesture of defiance — to highlight anger against systemic gender injustice.
The protest came in the wake of two disturbing incidents: the alleged assault on a journalist covering a demonstration in Delhi and the gang rape of a 17‑year‑old girl near Lady Shri Ram College. These cases have reignited public outrage and intensified calls for accountability from authorities.
Speakers at the rally stressed that women’s voices must be central to India’s democratic struggle, urging stronger laws, better policing, and cultural change to dismantle entrenched gender bias. The protest’s message was clear — women will not remain silent and will continue to lead movements for justice.
The Chappal Protest has now become a symbol of resistance, amplifying demands for safety, dignity, and equality nationwide.
