U.S. President Donald Trump has dismissed claims that Russia and China are assisting Iran, saying he does not believe either country is providing support to Tehran. His remarks came amid heightened attention to Washington’s relations with Moscow and Beijing.
In a post on Truth Social on Monday, October 12, Trump criticised people making the allegations, describing them as “Radical Left Morons and Lunatics.” He argued that Russia and China would face significant risks if they became involved in supporting Iran.
“If they are, it’s at a very low level, but I don’t believe they are at all,” Trump wrote in his post. He added that both countries had “too much to lose” and claimed the United States would quickly become aware of any such assistance.
Trump’s comments come as he continues diplomatic engagement with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Discussions involving the leaders have included energy supplies, economic cooperation and broader bilateral relations.
Meanwhile, China has agreed to import at least 10 million tonnes of U.S. coal during 2027 and 2028, following Xi’s visit in September. The agreement highlights continuing economic engagement between Washington and Beijing despite wider geopolitical tensions.
Trump’s remarks indicate that he is publicly downplaying suggestions of Russian or Chinese involvement in supporting Iran. However, his statement does not independently establish whether either country is providing assistance to Tehran.
The issue remains significant because any direct or indirect support for Iran by major global powers could affect international relations and regional security. Trump has maintained that Russia and China have strong reasons to avoid involvement that could create further risks for their interests.
