Schools and colleges in parts of Telangana will remain closed on September 25, 2026, following the state government’s decision to declare a holiday in view of the Ganesh idol immersion procession.
The holiday applies to government establishments and educational institutions in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, as well as institutions in Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.
The decision has been taken ahead of the large-scale Ganesh Visarjan processions expected across the region. Thousands of devotees are expected to participate in the celebrations, with major routes and immersion points likely to experience heavy crowds and traffic.
Keeping schools, colleges and government offices closed is intended to help reduce congestion and facilitate the movement of devotees and processions across the affected areas.
Ganesh Visarjan, observed on Anant Chaturdashi, marks the conclusion of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations as idols are carried in processions for immersion.
Several other parts of India also observe holidays during the festival period, particularly regions where large-scale Ganesh celebrations are held. Holiday arrangements, however, vary by state and local administration.
Students and staff in the affected Telangana districts should check with their respective institutions for any additional instructions regarding classes, examinations or scheduled activities.
