Class 10 students of Zilla Parishad Girls' High School in Bayyaram, Telangana, staged a protest demanding the appointment of a Social Studies teacher and better basic facilities at the school.
The students boycotted classes and demonstrated near the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Gandhi Centre in Mahabubabad. They alleged that the school has faced a shortage of Social Studies teachers for several years, with local reports indicating that the vacancy has continued for two to four years.
Students said the issue has become particularly concerning for the current Class 10 batch, as around four months of the academic year have passed without regular Social Studies classes. They expressed concern about completing the syllabus and preparing for the upcoming examinations.
The students also raised complaints about inadequate water supply, toilets and the absence of a proper playground. They appealed to district education authorities to intervene and address the problems.
The protest also resulted in a heated exchange between some parents and teachers. The agitation was called off after the District Education Officer assured the students that a Social Studies teacher would be appointed within two to three days.
