Veteran Tamil actor Sivakumar has recalled how his son Suriya and daughter-in-law Jyotika waited four years before getting married, describing their relationship as an example of patience and commitment.
Speaking in Tamil to JFW, Sivakumar said Suriya had made it clear that Jyotika was the person he wanted to marry. The couple came from different cities, with Jyotika from Mumbai and Suriya from Chennai, and their relationship eventually led to marriage after a period of waiting.
“I sometimes wonder if they are our children,” Sivakumar said with a laugh while reflecting on the couple’s journey. He added that love does not always come easily and recalled that Suriya had said he would marry Jyotika if he were to get married. According to Sivakumar, the couple waited four years before tying the knot.
Suriya and Jyotika married in 2006 after working together in several Tamil films. Their relationship has remained in the public spotlight over the years, while the couple has largely kept their family life private.
The couple recently marked 20 years of marriage with a celebration in Scotland, including a Christian wedding ceremony and a series of photographs shared on social media.
Sivakumar’s recollection has renewed interest in the early years of their relationship, particularly the time they spent waiting for their marriage to receive family acceptance. Their story also highlights how patience and commitment can shape relationships when families need time to come around.
