The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has ordered the immediate recall of a batch of Everest pre-packed cumin powder after laboratory testing found pesticide residues above prescribed limits. The tested sample was declared “unsafe” under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
The affected product is Batch No. E080668761. According to reports citing the regulator, residues of the pesticides azoxystrobin and thiamethoxam were found above the permitted maximum limits. The original regulatory sample was collected from the premises of Riverside Resorts & Holiday Homes Pvt Ltd in Goa. A referral laboratory subsequently confirmed the findings.
Consumers who have Everest cumin powder at home should check the batch number on the packaging. If it matches the recalled batch, FSSAI advises consumers not to consume the product and to return it to the retailer or place of purchase where possible. Consumers can also follow any specific instructions provided in the recall notice.
If someone has already consumed the affected product, there is no need to panic. FSSAI says people who have consumed a recalled food and have concerns about their health should seek medical advice. Consumers should inform the healthcare professional about the product they consumed and retain the packaging if available.
A food recall does not automatically mean that every product from the brand is unsafe. In this case, the regulatory action specifically concerns the implicated batch identified by FSSAI. Consumers should therefore check the product and batch details rather than relying only on the brand name. FSSAI says recalls are intended to remove food products that may pose a public-health risk from the market and consumers.
