Indian cricket stars Shubman Gill and Shafali Verma have earned international recognition after being named the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for their performances across recent competitions.
India captain Gill received the men’s award on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, following his impressive showing in the One Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies. The honour marks the fifth time he has won the monthly award, setting a record for the men’s category.
At 27, Gill has now matched West Indies captain Hayley Matthews, who has also claimed the ICC Player of the Month award five times. Gill’s previous wins came in January and September 2023, followed by February and July 2025.
His latest recognition highlights his continued presence among international cricket’s prominent performers, with his contributions during the West Indies ODI series earning particular attention.
Meanwhile, Indian opener Shafali Verma secured the women’s award after delivering notable performances in the Asia Cup and the Asian Games. Her achievement adds to India’s representation among the ICC’s monthly award winners and recognises her contributions across major competitions.
The double victory is also significant because it marks the fifth occasion on which players representing the same national cricket board have won both the men’s and women’s awards in the same month. Indian cricketers have achieved this double honour on two previous occasions.
The awards underline the performances of both Indian players across different formats and competitions. Gill’s record-equalling tally in the men’s category and Verma’s recognition in the women’s category provide a notable moment for Indian cricket.
Their achievements have brought attention to India’s international cricket campaign and the individual contributions that earned both players the ICC’s monthly honours.
