Reba McEntire has opened up about a missed phone call from Dolly Parton that has taken on new meaning following the country music icon’s passing.
McEntire recalled that Parton called her toward the end of July while she was in a meeting. She did not see the call in time and later tried to return it, but the two never managed to reconnect. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, McEntire said she continues to wonder what Parton wanted to discuss.
The two singers shared a friendship spanning decades. McEntire first met Parton at the Grand Ole Opry in 1977, and their relationship later extended into television and music collaborations.
Parton also supported McEntire during a difficult period following the 1991 plane crash that killed members of her touring team. McEntire recalled how Parton offered her own band to help her return to performing.
Reflecting on the unanswered call, McEntire said she may never know why Parton reached out, although she believes she will eventually find out. The moment has become a poignant memory of a friendship that remained important to her throughout the years.
