The Income Tax Department reportedly conducted searches at 12 locations on September 28 as part of an investigation into suspected financial irregularities involving film-related funds and alleged overseas transactions. Locations reportedly linked to producer Vashu Bhagnani and Panorama Studios were among those searched. No findings against Rakul have been publicly established.

In a statement shared on social media, Rakul said she has been paying her taxes since the age of 20 and described herself as a law-abiding citizen. She also denied involvement in any illegal foreign remittances, either personally or on behalf of a production house.

The actor further said she does not hold any “benami” property for anyone in India or abroad. She also denied accepting expensive gifts or properties, adding that she wanted to correct what she described as speculative media reports.

Rakul criticised reports that, according to her, were published without adequate verification and urged media outlets to retract information she considers inaccurate. She said such reporting could affect an individual's reputation and livelihood.

The clarification comes amid the broader Income Tax inquiry into suspected financial irregularities in the film industry. Reports have said officials were examining financial records and alleged overseas fund transfers connected with film financing. The department has not publicly announced findings establishing wrongdoing by Rakul.

On the work front, Rakul is set to appear as Shurpanakha in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana.
